Continuing our strategic growth with the establishment of an eleventh studio in Canberra, we mark a significant expansion of our presence across Australia.
Senior Architect Paul De Sailly will be at the helm of the new studio, which will see him return to his hometown of Canberra after building an impressive portfolio across Australia and internationally. With 20 years of experience working across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and London, De Sailly brings extensive expertise in large-scale mixed-use developments, multi-residential projects and civic architecture to the role.
The studio's establishment aligns with Canberra's economic development priorities, which emphasise sustainable infrastructure and climate resilience in building design. The ACT Government's commitment to net zero emissions by 2045 presents unique opportunities for innovative architectural solutions.
Commenting on Canberra's evolution, De Sailly said, "Canberra is experiencing an exciting period of growth and transformation, particularly with an influx of young professionals seeking both career opportunities and lifestyle benefits. The city now offers a sophisticated urban experience while maintaining its unique character as our nation's capital. Having grown up here, I've witnessed this evolution firsthand and am excited to contribute to its next chapter through Plus Architecture's design excellence."
De Sailly's appointment as Canberra Studio Lead builds on his long-standing relationship with us, having joined the Melbourne studio in 2008 and later contributing to the firm's Sydney operations. His return to Canberra represents both a homecoming and a strategic move to establish Plus' presence in the growing ACT market. With deep roots in the community, including attending local schools where his own child now studies, De Sailly brings both professional expertise and personal investment to the role.
Director Sumedh Kataria notes that the expansion into Canberra reflects the city's emergence as a knowledge capital and hub for innovation. "Paul's deep understanding of the local market, combined with his national and international experience, positions us perfectly to deliver exceptional architectural outcomes that align with Canberra's vision as a progressive, sustainable and innovative city. The Canberra studio will benefit from Plus Architecture's broader expertise across our Australian and New Zealand operations, while bringing a distinct local perspective to our growing network."
Aligning with the ACT Government's strategic focus on creating vibrant urban precincts, our Canberra studio will work across a diverse range of sectors including build-to-rent and medium-density residential developments, hotel and hospitality projects, mixed-use developments, commercial office spaces and civic and institutional architecture.
