Plus Architecture is delighted to announce Rydges Canberra is one of only eight projects shortlisted in the Best Hotel Design category of the 2021 Eat Drink Design Awards.
Drawing from the organic nature of Canberra’s mountainous surrounds, the design concept for Rydges Canberra was aptly entitled ‘trailblaze’. Playing with textures and details, the ground floor atrium has been transformed into an elegant space with an atmosphere befitting a world class hotel.
Progressive in its approach, there was a distinct focus on collaboration and trust - in particular as the works approached completion. Designed in Melbourne, the project was finalised during the 2020 lockdowns which prevented site visits. A local architect was entrusted to ensure project quality was not adversely impacted. The resulting design surpassed client expectations and has been extremely positively received by guests.
