Congratulations to Scape Australia, who recently secured development approval for their four towers in Sydney.
This unique urban renewal project features four purpose-built student accommodation buildings in Kensington and Kingsford, around the University of New South Wales.
Scape Kensington at 182-190 Anzac Parade and 157 Todman Avenue was designed by Plus Architecture and will feature 308 boarding rooms across an 18-storey building on a 1,800sq m site.
Rido Pin, Director at Plus Architecture said, “Scape Kensington sits at the heart of Randwick’s light rail corridor and, combined with its future opposite neighbours, will define Todman Plaza, a key intersection supported by great community infrastructure, retail and commercial opportunities connected to the network of new public open space.”
Scape Kensington has its own unique architectural expression in which the brick base embraces community and a dynamic interplay of uses, while the simple but elegant tower form will create a place to live supported by great communal internal and external spaces driven by amenity, sustainability and well-being. The tower façade concept draws inspiration from the sky patterning and responds to the urban scale.
Rido added, “The building represents a transition point from Anzac Parade as a public urban corridor towards the eastern existing neighbourhood character. The podium and tower form over had an opportunity to respond to this contrast through its expression and materiality. The podium design concept is based on the gesture of welcoming the public into the building, creating a dynamic and vibrant place where outside space effortlessly connects to the internal spaces connected to the character of its place.”
A huge milestone for Scape and Plus Architecture, construction is anticipated to start later this year.
