Build-to-rent concept with a rooftop urban farm fosters community living.
Occupying a prime island site in Miami, Village Green represents a benchmark for modern, community living. Our design features 109 build-to-rent residential units across seven levels, with communal rooftop amenities. Breaking away from modern silo living, it was important to us to create a development that would foster connection - among residents and to nature.
Alternating shared terraces on each level allows for trees to be planted up the building's façade, evoking a sense of biophilia and lightening the visual massing. Greenery extends to the rooftop, where residents will be able to grow their own produce in the urban farm. Further underpinning a strong connection to nature and community, the rooftop includes a recreation lawn with a covered barbeque area. We've also included a co-working space, gymnasium, car share and laundry services, plus an on-site cafe.
The thoughtfully considered material palette blends warm and cool-toned concrete and traditional brickwork. For both practicality and visual detail, accordion perforated screening has been incorporated into the facade.
We were mindful of the site's flood susceptibility and designed a building with inherent climate resilience. We have used robust materials throughout the design and level changes to safeguard critical infrastructure. This ensures the development will stand the test of time, and still interfaces with the community at street level.
