SOL: Redefining urban living in Maroochydore

Reshaping Maroochydore’s skyline and accelerating the growth of the new $2.5 billion Maroochydore City Centre, SOL by Walker proposes 251 dwellings across two towers with both towers complemented by two levels of commercial office space and ground-floor retail space.

Walker managing director and chief executive officer David Gallant said “billions of dollars are being invested into the Maroochydore city centre to create a purpose-built CBD for people to work and live, and these new apartments will offer terrific options for everyone from singles and families to couples and downsizers”

“SOL will bring 251 superior apartments with high-spec kitchens and bathrooms to the Maroochydore city centre next door to jobs, restaurants, cafes and future transport links. Within walking distance of the beach, major retail centres and the future Maroochydore Railway Station, the project will offer a range of products including over 50 one-bedroom apartments, which are in short supply on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

Sunshine Coast mayor Rosanna Natoli said the Maroochydore city centre was one of the best locations for housing and it would be great to see more apartments there.

“We need to embrace every opportunity to accelerate our housing supply on the Sunshine Coast in areas that are well connected to jobs, transport, community services and great amenities, and SOL, alongside other apartments in the city centre, will help our region meet those needs,” she said.

The towers' sculptural form draws inspiration from the undulating landscapes of the Sunshine Coast and the sinuous Maroochy River. Oriented to maximise views of the ocean, river, hinterland, and emerging city skyline, the buildings feature full-height glazing, deep slab projections, and permeable balustrades. This architectural approach ensures abundant natural light, optimal airflow, and strategic shading – hallmarks of Plus Architecture's commitment to climate-responsive design.

Principal Chrisney Formosa said "SOL seamlessly integrates coastal living with urban sophistication. Our design delivers spaces that harmonise with the local climate, prioritise user comfort and foster community connection. Every element, from the subtropical landscaping to the innovative amenities, has been meticulously crafted to redefine city living in Maroochydore."

SOL's material palette is a testament to durability and aesthetics, carefully selected to withstand coastal conditions while maintaining visual appeal. The integration of resilient plant species and vegetated rooftops not only reduces the heat island effect but also enhances biodiversity, seamlessly weaving nature into the urban fabric.
