The restoration of a 1970s hotel in Geelong, the design is a contemporary interpretation of the classic Australian hotel brand Rydges. Repositioning this old gem, Plus sought to create a new customer experience for the hotel with a palette inspired by research and photography of the coastline in the Geelong precinct.
Inspired by the waterlines and biophilic nature of the Victorian coast, a light, bright artistic direction inspired custom carpets and the installation of large art installation – a two-way sand wall – which is anchored by copper tones found throughout the industrial buildings in the surrounds.
The opportunity to create a new look and feel for a heritage brand was embraced by rethinking the way a business traveller uses a hotel. There was a definitive focus on creating intimate spaces and delivering well-considered, custom furniture pieces designed exclusively for the hotel by Plus designers.
