Rottnest Island, or Wadjemup, has a very special place in the hearts of Australians.
An A-class reserve, the island is heritage listed and includes significant First Nation sites. The combination of the island’s natural beauty and history underpin its status as a world-class tourist destination in Western Australia.
As a result, the accommodation on Rottnest Island caters to the widest possible range of visitors intended to maximise attraction to the island.
Plus Architecture was proud to help celebrate and enhance the visitor experience of Rottnest Island’s stunning landscapes, unique wildlife and rich history by delivering consistency and design quality for a variety of projects on the island.
In December 2018, Plus Architecture and its sub consultant team were selected by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) to work with Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) following an open tender process to create a series of design guidelines and deliver accommodation upgrades for short stay villas.
As part of a 20-year master plan for the popular island, Plus Architecture worked closely with the RIA on upgrades including creating the accommodation upgrades design guidelines for South Thomson, North Thomson, Bathhurst, Geordie and Longreach accommodation, designing South Thomson accommodation upgrades, and supporting in the delivery of the visitor centre refurbishment and upgraded visitor facilities at Oliver Hill and The Basin.
