Plus is currently involved in the design and delivery of three National Storage Centres across Auckland ranging from four to six storeys and offering between 350 to 740 storage units across various sizes along with associated visitor and customer amenities.
The design brief for the centres called for secure and safe internal storage facilities presented in an elegant and well-proportioned building form whilst also portraying clear brand identity.
Maintaining a square form, the buildings are designed to blend and respond to local context. Combining a simple and cost effective, yet refined, materials palette with a dynamic form, the design achieves an elegant contextual response to the site and building typologies that complements the existing streetscape conditions.
The self-storage building typology is usually monotonous and internally focussed with limited interaction to the street. With the design created by Plus, the cladding of the buildings have been raised off the ground level providing pedestrian interaction, increased visual permeability through clear cladding and activation of the main street frontage.
