Redefining “community” in Sydney’s burgeoning west.
A transformative masterplan vision that will seamlessly integrate residential towers with a vibrant retail and commercial base, fostering a sense of community and embracing the rich heritage of Cabramatta.
Cabramatta Town Centre East, which forms part of the broader Cabramatta East precinct, embraces the existing heritage and community spirit, extending its influence to the eastern part of Cabramatta CBD as part of Fairfield City Council’s vision.
Plus Architecture has carefully crafted the three tower masterplan with a central plaza at it’s heart which will facilitate a community driven precinct well connected to the train station as well as the existing urban fabric.
Cabramatta's present urban fabric consists of a dense, fine-grain subdivision pattern, reminiscent of the arcades of Southeast Asia, with larger buildings divided into smaller tenancies. This content served as inspiration and informed the architectural design approach for the mixed-use development.
Plus Architecture's objective for the site is to create a high-quality precinct that places a strong emphasis on enhancing community connections and promoting the use of public spaces, offering a new and dynamic urban framework for its residents.
“In response, the development comprises three towers situated above a series of podia, which elegantly frame a public plaza and a network of laneways that seamlessly connect to the wider community,” Plus Architecture director Rido Pin says.
“These beautifully crafted buildings, enriched by the process of Designing with Country, will leave a lasting and significant contribution to the cultural fabric of Cabramatta.”
Additionally, the development provides a supportive environment for growth and innovation, nurturing entrepreneurship, small businesses, and start-ups. It also creates ample opportunities for employment, education, training, and research, driving economic prosperity within the precinct.
The two-stage development encompasses a total of 358 apartments across the towers, which, in conjunction with the podia, establish the foundation for a new public square. Cabramatta East’s central plaza will also connect with the adjacent train station.
Architecturally, the development incorporates materiality, colour, detailing, and landscape elements to create visual interest, variety, and a sense of place within the building expression.
“The Cabramatta East Town Centre is a landmark development that will showcase Cabramatta not only to the broader community but internationally as a destination for Asian food and culture,” Moon Investments Pty Ltd managing director Jim Castagnet says.
“For the local community it will mean state of the art housing, retail shopping and unsurpassed live, work and play opportunities as well as economic growth. The market place will be the beating heart of Cabramatta.”
By embracing the community's heritage, enhancing connectivity, and providing vibrant public spaces, this development nurtures a sense of belonging while contributing to the growth and innovation of Cabramatta.
With its meticulous design and attention to detail, the development not only harmonises with the existing urban fabric but also leaves a lasting legacy that celebrates the spirit and cultural richness of the community.
The site also has capacity for future expansion with Planning Proposals for Stages 3 and 4 already approved by the Department of Planning.
