In the latest issue of Domain’s weekly magazine, included in The Australian Financial Review, director Ian Briggs talks to Brydie Shepard and reflects on his two decade tenure at Plus Architecture, place-based design and learning from the best.
From creating Auckland’s tallest residential tower to producing a suite of multi-residential projects alongside long-time collaborator Lechte Corporation, Briggs’ portfolio of work is an ever evolving homage to the places he works and the public he serves.
“When it comes to architecture, designing a building is second,” Briggs said.
“What you are working on initially is how to make the place around you better. You have to care about the people, the users, the environment and consider what the community wants and what it’s missing.”
Looking ahead he is forecasting full-scale immersion, planning for the rise of AI and the demand for an even deeper blurring of place and people.
