A cutting-edge upgrade for tomorrow's mining sector.
Seeking to elevate their existing location, BHP engaged Plus Architecture to refurbish the BHP Training Facility in Queensland’s Mackay with upgraded amenities primed for upskilling new and existing team members. The additions included specialist classrooms, dedicated focus and break-out spaces alongside upgraded facility access.
The Plus Architecture team made innovative use of the existing facility by introducing a variety of flexible spaces suited to dynamic needs of BHP’s team, incorporating durable yet playful materials that embrace the BHP brand colours. Our design adds a total of eight classrooms, a multipurpose space with open-plan flexibility for seminars, first-aid room, parents’ room, prayer room and several focus rooms for smaller groups alongside break-out spaces. While the existing facility provided entrance to the first floor only via internal stairs, our design introduced a new lift for improved accessibility.
Staff safety sits at the forefront of BHP values, and we have implemented the same values in our design. The result of our engagement with BHP is a modern, motivating training facility equipped for a diverse talent pool of tomorrow’s mining sector.
