Providing residents with access to more effective public transit solutions.

Plus Architecture collaborated during 2019-2020 with lead consultant Aecom and planning consultant Hames Sharley on station concept and transit precinct proposals to extend the Armadale Line approximately eight kilometers south to Byford. This Feasibility Stage work formed a part of the Byford Rail Extension project commissioned by METRONET.

Included in the Byford Rail Extension project scope was the requirement for options proposing replacement of the existing at-grade station and bus interchange at Armadale.  The early planning and design concepts for Armadale town centre considered station location, precinct development opportunities, pedestrian and multi-modal transport connections, constructability staging and community impact.

The aim of the Armadale Station centred work was to identify the preferred location and alignment for the Byford Rail Extension so that the constructed outcome supports economic and employment growth in Armadale town centre.  Design intentions included provision of sightlines and surveillance of grade separated movement across the rail reserve while catalysing opportunities for new mixed-use development adjacent to the station precinct
