Encouraging connection to the outdoors at every opportunity
Amaroo is a contemporary residential development in Huskisson, a coastal town in south-east New South Wales on the shores of Jervis Bay. Amaroo addresses the region’s growing need for high-quality family homes and holiday residences while responding to its local context and natural surroundings.
Amaroo’s design draws inspiration from its coastal and bushland environment. The built form is positioned to maximise northern views of lush greenery, while architectural indentations allow southern residences to enjoy similar vistas. By introducing articulated facades to the west, north, and east, the design reduces the building’s perceived mass, creating a scale that complements the surrounding neighbourhood while anticipating the area's gradual transition to medium-density living at the same time.
Greenery is woven into the design—from the ground plane to the facades and rooftops—strengthening the relationship between the building and its natural setting. A blend of native species ensures the development reflects and enhances the existing environment, while select exotic plants provide texture and visual interest. These landscaped areas buffer neighbouring properties, create privacy, and offer a green outlook for residents.
To further encourage interaction and connection to the outdoors, the design includes a communal rooftop terrace with a pool and a landscaped garden at ground level. These shared amenities complement private courtyards and balconies, offering residents opportunities to gather, unwind, and seek out the coastal lifestyle that Huskisson has to offer.
“The opportunity to work on Amaroo has been incredibly rewarding,” says Gabriel Duque, Director, “we’re delighted to contribute to a project conceived to seamlessly adapt and respond to its context, while also supporting the future development of Huskisson.”
Using every opportunity to reference its surroundings, the design incorporates materials and finishes that echo the local landscape. Timber cladding, bleached white concrete edges, battens, and textured vertical elements that reflect the area’s beach and bushland character.
