This mixed-use tower, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in collaboration with Plus Architecture as executive architect, will become a landmark, not just in Melbourne but also in Australia.

This retail, office and residential project, a first for Zaha Hadid Architects in Australia, will add an important new layer to the city’s urban fabric. This joint venture has brought together different yet complementary skills and experiences for this unique project.

Located at the western boundary of Melbourne’s CBD, the design of 600 Collins has evolved from Melbourne’s distinctive urban fabric, adding to the city’s public realm and providing new homes in Melbourne’s CBD – an increasingly popular place to live.

600 Collins opens a new pedestrian route connecting Collins with Francis Street which will ease congestion at the Collins and Spencer Street junction by creating a shortcut to Southern Cross station from the CBD. This new pedestrian route will be enhanced with a café and civic space.

The arrangement of the tower takes its inspiration from its mixed-use programme, converting the building’s overall volume into a series of smaller stacked ‘vases’. Each vase houses a different programmatic element. At the junctions between each vase, easily accessible communal spaces are created offering the public and residents a new way to experience the city.
