A new chapter takes shape
A century-old landmark, 461 Chapel Road has long been part of Bankstown’s story—its solid brick exterior holding the past, while a new chapter takes shape. This redevelopment will bring fresh energy to the area, creating a mixed-use precinct that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to its community.
Our design unfolds across 185 social and affordable homes, prioritising essential workers and single women over 55. Alongside them, new ministry infrastructure, a childcare centre, street-front shops, and a rectory will ensure that residents can foster a deeper community connection.
Greenery spills from terraces and balconies, softening the architecture and weaving nature into the urban fabric. At street level, large glazed openings invite movement and interaction, making communal and commercial spaces feel open, welcoming, and part of everyday life.
This project is part of a larger collaboration with Sustainable Development Group (SDG) and Sydney Anglican Property (SAP) aimed at transforming church properties into integrated social infrastructure and places where community can take root and grow.
Peter Ko, Senior Minister of St Paul’s Anglican Church explains, "Our current facilities are no longer fit-for-purpose, but this redevelopment ensures we can continue serving the local community while also helping address Sydney's housing crisis. We're incredibly grateful for this opportunity."
461 Chapel Road is one of two urban renewal projects we are designing with Housing Australia under the Federal Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF).
