A home for those who need it most.
1-3 Edwin Street has always been a place of gathering, and this project continues that tradition—just with a new purpose. Once a quiet church site, it’s evolving into something equally meaningful: a home for those who need it most.
74 social housing units, all dedicated to single women over 55 and families in need of stable and secure accommodation, will help those seeking a fresh start. With over 500 square metres of communal space designed for connection, shared gardens, rooftop terraces, and community spaces will be a place for the community to gather and connect.
The design respects its setting. A four-storey podium ties into the surrounding neighbourhood, its brick façade nodding to the area’s material heritage. Above, lighter fibre cement panels create a sense of rhythm, playing with shadow and light. A bold eight-storey corner form marks the intersection, anchoring the project within the urban fabric. And throughout, layers of planting soften edges, offering shade, privacy, and pockets of greenery.
“This project is an incredible opportunity to deliver much-needed social housing in Sydney’s south-west,” says Director Sumedh Kataria. “We’re proud to be involved in shaping a place that prioritises community, security, and connection for those who need it most.”
This project is part of a larger effort with Sustainable Development Group (SDG) and Sydney Anglican Property (SAP) to reimagine church properties as integrated social infrastructure. It’s also one of two urban renewal projects we’re designing with Housing Australia under the Federal Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF), paving the way for more affordable housing.
