Fun, fresh and colourful with a retro-luxe vibe, the new Atrium Bar is a playful and dynamic destination that embodies the iconic bar with a fresh new twist.

The design brief provided to Plus Architecture was to reimagine the existing Atrium bar and to ensure a strong connection to the Gaming Floor and public access from The Darling lift lobby and entry.

The resulting design is based on three key elements, organic forms and curves, moments of discovery and play of light. Inspired by the Gold Coast’s endless summer lifestyle, we embraced a sense of fun, excitement and playfulness to create a feeling of being on show. Stepping into the bar is like looking through rose coloured glasses, forgetting your worries and embracing a sense of freedom. The retro-luxe vibes were inspired by a sense of nostalgia most feel when visiting the Gold Coast, a place for holidays, sun, surf and fun times.

The 576 square-meter project preserves much of the bar footprint, with the introduction of large rendered archways that open onto the Gaming Lounge to create a statement and direct people through to the bar.

Influences of the glamorous allure of disco are evident throughout with organic curved forms, luxurious materials such as brass mesh with more playful elements such as curved banquette seating in colourful pops of pink and teal blue upholstery. A large dancefloor with a DJ booth creates the central focus under stunning curved brass mesh curtains with a custom LED ribbon light and disco ball.
