A home away from home for patients undergoing lifesaving treatment.

The Bone Marrow Cancer Trust engaged Plus Architecture to design patient accommodation for bone marrow transplant patients who travel hundreds of kilometres to Christchurch for their treatment.

Built to accommodate out-of-town patients receiving treatment at Christchurch Hospital and their supporting families and caregivers, Rānui House offers over 35 purpose-built, dual-key apartments opposite the hospital and a short walk from Hagley Park and the city’s botanical gardens.

The one- and two-bedroom apartments feature kitchen, bathroom and laundry amenities, and those who stay receive a key and security tag for entrance into this gated facility.

Overall, our design comprised two multi-level accommodation buildings with an office and reception area, onsite manager accommodation, communal spaces, onsite support services, outdoor living areas and a carpark.
