A world-class health facility is proposed for a prominent site in Christchurch's Health Precinct.

The International Recovery Centre consists of a mixed-use medical centre with private medical consultation and procedure rooms, and luxury recovery suites. It’s proposed the development will also provide hotel-style accommodation called medi-hotel to assist with hospital overflow and conference facilities on the upper floor for medical conventions and education.

Connecting with the local community, the Centre features spaces for retail or services on the ground floor and car and bike parking in the basement.

Plus Architecture Director Jaimin Atkins says the design features a striking facade that represents the gentle rippling surface of the nearby Avon River.

“Evoking elegance and comfort, the facilities are designed to be welcoming, comfortable, and exude a commitment to patient wellbeing,” says Atkins.

Huadu International Chairman, Jianping Wang, says “This is an exciting development for the city and Huadu. Huadu sees the Health Precinct as an important part of the social and economic infrastructure of Christchurch and the region delivering better health services and attracting talented people to our city.

“This project builds on Huadu’s existing commitment to the Precinct… It will assist with the ever-increasing health needs of the garden city and New Zealand for generations to come.”

The International Recovery Centre is proposed for one of the final sites in the Precinct which aims to bring together hospital facilities, private research and professional partners, educational and medi-hotel facilities.

The design received Resource Consent in 2021 from the Christchurch City Council and Plus is now working towards submitting for Building Consent by the end of 2021.
