An upgrade for one of Perth’s major public transport bus and train interchanges.

Lead Consultant Aurecon and Plus Architecture was awarded the Concept Design Options Study for the Canning Bridge Bus Interchange, led by the Public Transport Authority (PTA) of Western Australia.

The project aims were to increase the capacity of the Interchange, allow more efficient public transport scheduling in the Applecross/South Perth area, improve the safety and amenity of public transport journeys, and provide additional road capacity along the Canning Highway.

Aurecon and Plus Architecture were commissioned to develop PTA’s two previous 5% feasibility studies into more detailed 15% design options. Commencing with comprehensive Gap Analysis and analysing public transport data relevant to Canning Bridge, the combined team progressed with modelling and developing the PTA’s ‘North-West Quadrant’ and ‘Over- Freeway’ 5% design options.

In parallel with supporting a program of key stakeholder engagement, the multi-discipline project has delivered more technically resolved designs that reflect adjoining LGA Precinct Plans. The 15% design options will be used for further State Government assessment, costing and funding purposes.

The project outputs have been captured in a comprehensive, multi-discipline 15% Design Stage report which includes constructability and planning strategies for future stages of this key inter-modal project.
