Providing residents with access to more effective public transit solutions.

Located within the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Byford is Perth’s fastest-growing suburb, with a population tripling since 2011 to 27,000 people, and a further 100,000 expected to move to the area by 2050. The planned Byford Rail Extension will connect public transport patronage to destinations across the metropolitan area, as part of the METRONET network.

Plus Architecture is proud to have contributed to the multidisciplinary team engaged by METRONET, providing Feasibility Study designs for new public transport and town centre infrastructure at Byford and Armadale.

Working with the current Western Australia State Planning Strategy to extend the Armadale Line approximately 8 kilometres south to Byford, the station proposals incorporate rail and bus interchange, with access designed to catalyse development opportunities, precinct activation and passive surveillance.

Byford Rail Extension station designs also provide for universal accessibility including pedestrian and cycling connections which were configured as part of current and planned networks.

The intent of the Feasibility Study options was to assist METRONET in identifying the best station locations and alignment for the Byford Rail Extension, ensuring that outcomes support local growth, including increased employment and encouraging mixed-use transit precinct development.
